How Does CEREC Work?

At the beginning of your CEREC appointment, Dr. Truong and our team will prepare your tooth and take a photo of it with our digital camera. CEREC’s imaging software will then create a photorealistic 3D model of your restoration on our computer screen—all without that messy, uncomfortable impression tray.

CEREC restorations are made of a biocompatible ceramic material that can be adjusted to match the natural color of your other healthy teeth. We’ll insert a block of the ceramic material into our onsite milling unit, which constructs your restoration according to the exact specifications outlined by the virtual model. A short time later, your restoration will be ready to be placed.

The Benefits of CEREC Restorations

Because the computer-aided manufacturing is extremely precise, you’re sure to have a great fit when your newly-milled crown is polished and bonded to your tooth. The results are also incredibly natural thanks to the high-grade ceramic material that can be matched to virtually any tooth shade. CEREC has been clinically proven in numerous independent scientific studies and millions of successful restorations all over the world. Your smile could be next!

Low-Radiation Digital X-rays

Arboretum

Digital X-rays emit less radiation than conventional X-rays and use smooth digital sensors instead of sharp X-ray film. They don’t require lengthy chemical processing either, so the images are available on our computer screen within seconds.

We use X-rays in the routine dental exams of all of our patients, because many problems with the teeth and surrounding tissues cannot be seen by the naked eye. X-rays can reveal:

  • Cavities below existing restorations
  • Small areas of decay between teeth
  • Infections in the jaw bones
  • Early signs of gum disease
  • Abscesses, cysts and some tumors
  • Developmental abnormalities

Intraoral Cameras

Like digital X-rays, digital photographs taken with our intraoral cameras are a useful diagnostic and education tool. These cameras show you what Dr. Truong sees during your exam and help him guide you through your diagnosis and treatment options. They also enable him to diagnose issues he might not have been able to see without the up-close view.

Soft Tissue Laser

Laser dentistry not only eliminates the need for scalpels and sutures—it also minimizes pain and speeds the healing process! Dr. Truong uses a minimally-invasive soft tissue laser in a variety of applications, from deep cleanings and gum surgery to cosmetic gum reshaping for "gummy smiles."
